Hello! Who remembers getting a sugar egg for Easter. I sure do and I always marveled at how they could get the little scene in it. Today, I have a card that re-creates those sugar eggs of past. I am using a few new products from the Trinity Stamps release earlier this month.
To make this card, I went at it the same way I would if I were making a shaker card. I wanted all the dimension without adding the shaker embellishments. I lined my the dies from the Sugar Egg Builder Die Set, using the second largest egg shape, on a piece of 110lb cardstock. Once I had the placement of the dies, where I needed them to be, I used some mint tape to hold them together and then I cut out a total of eight pieces to create a well. VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure before you take apart your dies that you also cut out a piece of cardstock that will be the front of your egg. In my card, it was a piece of shimmer pink card stock.
With all my pieces cut out, I glued them all together finishing with my pink cardstock on top.
I used the frosting stamp from the Sugar Egg Builder Stamp set to stamp and heat emboss the design with clear embossing powder. I added a little bit of shading using a light blue maker to help give the design a little depth. Once I had my shading done, I used the dies from the Sugar Egg Builder Die set to cut out my frosting and glued to the front of my egg.
For the "inside" of my scene, I used the largest egg shaped die from the Sugar Egg Builder Set to cut it from a light blue shimmer paper. I added a little Uncharted Mariner Distress Oxide Ink to dust a little color at the bottom of the egg to make it appear like water.
I used the Egg Shaped Card Die to cut out the base of my card from a light blue cardstock. I used the largest of the egg shapes from the Sugar Egg Builder Die Set to cut out the shape from some patterned paper. I glued those pieces together topping it off with my empty sugar egg scene.
I used Copic markers to color in the scene in the following colors:
- C00, C0, C1 - Swan
- Y000, T13 - Beaks
- E08, E57 - Cattails
- YG01, YG25, YG17 - Reeds
- BG0000, B0000 B000, B00, BG18 - Water
I used the die to cut out my little scene and then applied 2mm foam dots to the back of the piece and placed it inside my scene.
I applied a wide double sided adhesive to the back of a piece of vellum and used the bow from the Holiday Wreath Circle Card Add On Die Set. Vellum doesn't play well with adhesives, meaning that they usually show through. I work around this my applying adhesive to the whole piece and the parts that don't actually adhere to the card, are dusted with embossing powder so that they don't stick where I don't want them to. To see how I do this, you can watch my process video which is linked down below.
The Easter Blessing sentiment on the front of the card was heat embossed with gold embossing powder and then trimmed to fit the front of the card.
For the inside of my card, I cut out a piece of white cardstock using the second largest egg shape from the Sugar Egg Builder Die Set. I created my sentiment for the inside of my card using the Simply Sentimental-Easter Stamp Set.
If you would like a more detailed description on how I created this card, I have linked my YouTube video below.
I love how this card turned out - it just hits all those memories.
Thank you so much for stopping by today and I hope this blog is inspiring you to create a smile one card at a time.
Sandy
